Microblog: White House Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition and Health – Risks of MyPlate

The White House held a conference to “end hunger and increase healthy eating and physical activity by 2030, so that fewer Americans experience diet-related diseases like diabetes, obesity, and hypertension.”   📝As part of the conference, the White House released the “Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health” and a fact sheet on the $8B commitment that is part of the strategy.   💔The premise of healthy nutrition is based on MyPlate. MyPlate is USDA’s US Dietary Guidelines. 🌱MyPlate is very heavily plant-based and promotes proteins mostly from plant-based varieties. Issues with a plant-based diet   1️⃣In terms of plant-based diets, many nutrients are lacking then just vitamin B12.   2️⃣Protein from plant-based foods doesn’t consider the required amino acid profile. Not all proteins are created equally.   3️⃣Humans aren’t meant to eat plant-based. Most plants are toxic...

Microblog: Changing Dietary Guidelines Through the People

Watch the clip here.   Watch the full interview here.   CHANGING DIETARY GUIDELINES THROUGH THE PEOPLE.   Yes, our healthcare is broken.   Yes, our food recommendations are broken.   But we can change things. We vote with our dollars. We can have grassroots movements that can change things.   More and more I see stores like Walmart carry organic foods. They’re not doing it because they truly care for the consumer. They do it because it brings in revenue.   Stores sell what sells.   When we buy less packaged and processed foods, we tell big food we don’t want their junk. When we buy less seed oils and buy more tallow or even olive oil, they will be forced to change to continue to make profit.   Sure, big corps will always try to cut costs but it’s a way we...

Microblog: The Red Flags of the Tufts Food Compass

I sat down and did some lengthy research into Tuft's Food Compass Guide.   🚩I wasn’t thrilled with what I found and decided to write an article that sums up my thoughts.   🧠If you heard about this food compass guide, I highly recommend reading my article, here.   ❗️I'm afraid that food ratings like the Compass Guide will soon become the norm and unsurprisingly, it negatively rates meat.   Make sure to share with friends and family that need to read it!   EXCERPT:Based on the Food Compass Guide, here's what I learned:1) You should limit fats from animals but can eat all the canola and vegetable oil you want. You can read my post on Canola Oil and WHO: https://www.nutritionwithjudy.com/world-health-organization-recommends-canola-oil/ 2) Meatless meats are better than natural meatYou can read my post on Beyond Meat:...

Microblog: Demonizing Animal-Based Foods

Watch the clip here.   Watch the full interview here.   DEMONIZING ANIMAL-BASED FOODS.   One of the reasons animal-based foods have demonized. Many of us know about the Ancel Keys studies. But what about Coca Cola and the 7th Day Adventist church?   This is a powerful episode that will unveil a lot of truths as to why we are being pushed a plant-based agenda.   Yes, agenda.   — 📺 Full interview with @belindafettke https://youtu.be/z0H6COAx5RI   🎙Full interview on podcast: https://nutritionwithjudy.buzzsprout.com/1848795/11721803-205-exposing-the-secrets-of-the-plant-based-vegetarian-guidelines-belinda-fettke ...

Microblog: Swap This for That – Flour or Corn?

Oftentimes when we start paleo and low carb diets, we seek alternative options for our favorite foods. We turn to almond flour in replace of all-purpose flour. We choose cassava or yuca root instead of corn or flour tortilla chips.⠀   🍃By now many of us know that almonds are very high in oxalates. If you are new to oxalates, I recommend checking out @sknorton. And without the chance of properly soaking almonds in our almond flours, we don’t stand a chance with antinutrients. Note: Soaking and cooking will not do much with oxalates but may help reduce some lectins and phytates. More info on this will be provided soon @carnivorecure.⠀ ⠀🍠Cassava. Cassava is a root vegetable. We use the cassava root as a food and even as...

Microblog: What Are Oxalates?

Watch the clip here. Watch the full interview here. Plants contain oxalates, which are naturally occurring compounds that can cause harm to the body. It’s the plant defense mechanism so you never eat it again. 🍃Oxalates are found in large quantities in plant roots and leaves, the part of the plant that’s essential for it to survive. ⚠️For some, oxalates can exacerbate kidney stones, digestive issues, mineral absorption, and many other symptoms. 🔎We also produce small amounts of oxalates ourselves within our cell’s mitochondria (Kreb cycle). 👥There is also a genetic component of some people producing more oxalates within the body. 🥩Oftentimes the best way to reduce the oxalate load is by reducing the plant-based foods. —📺 Full interview with @sknorton https://youtu.be/wYfaS8FYFbw 🎙Full interview on podcast: https://nutritionwithjudy.buzzsprout.com/1848795/11372600-204-how-oxalate-overload-is-making-you-sick-sally-norton-interview ...

Microblog: Pellagra: Science vs. Nature

Watch the clip here.   Watch the full interview here.   Pellagra is a disease caused by a lack of the vitamin, (B3) niacin. Symptoms include inflamed skin, diarrhea, dementia, and sores in the mouth.   ☀️Areas of the skin exposed to sunlight or friction are usually affected first. With time, the skin may become darker, stiffen, peel, or bleed.   There are two main types of pellagra.1️⃣Primary pellagra is due to a diet that does not contain enough niacin and tryptophan.   2️⃣Secondary pellagra is due to a poor ability to use niacin within the diet. This can occur as a result of alcoholism, long-term diarrhea, and carcinoid syndrome.   ❓What resolves the primary issues of low niacin and tryptophan?MEAT   ❓What resolves the secondary issues of pellagra?MEAT and reducing alcohol.   🥩Instead of fortifying our foods, we should have stuck to...

Microblog: ADHD and Medication

Watch the clip here. Watch the full interview here. Often in a public school system, a teacher will diagnose a child with possible ADHD or ADD. The parents are instructed to take the child to a psychologist to confirm diagnosis. 📖CDC researchers found that half of children were diagnosed by a primary care physician (because the full 15 mins they spend with a child they can determine a diagnosis?) 🔻About 8 in 10 diagnoses from an adult other than a family member. (e.g., teacher) 🔻About three-quarters of children with ADHD were diagnosed before age 9 and one-third of those by age 6; 🔻A primary care physician (usually a pediatrician) first made the diagnosis for about half of the children; 🔻Children with ADHD first diagnosed by a psychiatrist were more likely to be under 6...
