Microblog: Carnivore Foods High in Calcium

Microblog: Carnivore Foods High in Calcium

Most of us get sufficient calcium. We are missing the cofactors that allow the body to absorb/use the calcium.

⚠️And don’t go by calcium levels with your blood.

🩸Our blood will always look good until disease is imminent. Our bones will give up calcium to balance minerals like phosphorous.

💇🏻‍♂️Consider DEXA scans and hair mineral test for calcium levels. While none of these are perfect, having multiple data points can help you on your healing journey.

Calcium requires cofactors which include:
💧HYDRATION (WATER AND ELECTROLYTES)
Make sure you hydrate with quality water and trace minerals

🪨MINERALS

Magnesium, potassium and sodium are all important.

🦴Phosphorous levels are also important as if your body is too rich in phosphorous, calcium (usually from our bones) will be used to balance out the level.

🧬HORMONE FUNCTION
Parathyroid function is big here.

☀️VITAMINS
I talked about vitamin D and how its important for our body to use calcium. It’s why I shared Vitamin D levels in the foods listed

🐟FATTY ACIDS
A good balance of omegas is key and why I recommend eating more than one type of fat.

🌟We need vitamin D to support calcium absorption. We also need fat to absorb fat-soluble vitamin D.

⛑DIGESTION
Good gut health will always be a key in ensuring you can not only break down nutrients from your foods but also absorb them.

🥴Nutrition can get complicated because of all the different vitamins and minerals and how they balance one another.

🌈But if you eat a rainbow of meats (variety), you can better balance real whole food nutrients and not have to worry about these nuances as much.

🔑Beef-only is not ideal ong term. You can see how minerals can get depleted quickly.

🥩In the past few posts about electrolytes, beef (even if we considered liver) didn’t show up much. It’s because it’s not high in these minerals.

💡Fatty fish is ideal on a carnivore diet as it complements beef well. Otherwise, you may have to resort to supplementation.

🌈Focus on real meats and a variety of them. You will likely feel better on a meat-based diet.
