Sarcopenia is the loss of muscle mass related to aging.
💪🏼It’s normal to lose some muscle mass as you age. Sarcopenia is when you have severe muscle loss that doesn’t follow the norm of aging.
🥀Sarcopenia affects our balance and the ability to perform daily tasks.
🦴It’s one reason older people end up having hip replacements. If you had enough muscle, the chances of breaking bones and life-altering injuries are less.
🩻Both muscle loss and bone loss is related to diet. See the last couple of posts on calcium to see the details with bone loss.
💡As @drseanomara says in our chat, sarcopenia is heavily related to visceral fat and our overconsumption of processed carbs.
The example he shares is jaw dropping.
🍰While carbs seem fun for momentary energy and pleasure, too many processed carbs will make things more difficult as we age.
🌟And I hope all of us age gracefully and have the ability to enjoy life to the fullest.
