Microblog: Craving These Foods? Your Body May Need. . .

A food craving (also called selective hunger) is an intense desire to consume a specific food, and is different from normal hunger. It may or may not be related to specific hunger, the drive to consume particular nutrients that is well-studied in animals.

⚠️Food cravings are extremely common, with more than 90% of people experiencing them. (In this post, I’m talking only about physical cravings, not mental/emotional ones—that’s a completely different topic).

👫🏻Research shows that males are more likely to crave savory foods, whereas females are more likely to crave high fat, sweet foods.

👂🏻 I always say listen to your body and maybe your body is craving chocolate, not because of the chocolate itself but because your body is needing some magnesium.

🥩On a meat-based diet, we tend to lose our cravings. In fact, sometimes it’s easy to forget to eat. (Don’t do this as you will ruin your metabolism and impact your hormones.)

💡Maybe on a meat-based diet we lose our cravings because we are fueling our bodies with the most nutrient-dense, bioavailable foods.

🍟Maybe 90% of people experience specific cravings because they’re eating a nutrient-poor, not-easily-accessible plant-based diet (technically, even the SAD is a plant-based diet).

💡Trust your body’s innate intelligence, it will not steer you wrong. Feed the right foods to your body and your body will take care of the rest.

📥Save this post so that the next time you have a specific craving, you can figure out what nutrient your body may be needing.
